Hot dip galvanizing and aluminum zinc plating are two common metal surface treatment methods, which are widely used in the manufacturing industry to improve the corrosion resistance and durability of metal materials.
Hot dip galvanizing is the process of coating a metal surface with zinc by soaking the metal in molten zinc. The process forms a zinc layer on the metal, which protects it from oxidation and corrosion. Hot-dip galvanizing is usually applied to large, complex and long-term metal products, such as building structures, vehicles, and ships.
Aluminum-zinc plating is the process of coating a metal with an aluminum-zinc alloy. The method involves soaking the metal in a liquid containing aluminum and zinc to create a protective film. Aluminum-zinc plating is more resistant to corrosion than hot-dip galvanizing, so it is commonly used in metal products that require higher levels of protection, such as wind turbines, solar panels, and communication towers.
Whether hot dip galvanizing or aluminum zinc plating, they can improve the durability and corrosion resistance of metal products. These treatment methods can be according to different use environments and requirements, choosing the most suitable surface treatment.
Stocked Galvanneal
Gauge | Thickness | Thickness Tolerance |
---|---|---|
14 gauge | 0.078" | 1.98 mm | ± 0.008 |
16 gauge | 0.064" | 1.61 mm | ± 0.006 |
18 gauge | 0.052" | 1.32 mm | ± 0.005 |
20 gauge | 0.040" | 1.01 mm | ± 0.004 |
Galvanneal does not flake off its coating when formed and bent. The very fine matte finish acts like a primer and easily adheres to paint and it is very rust-proof, only white to dark grey marks appear if it comes in contact with water. Galvanneal sheets offer good paintability, weldability, corrosion resistance, and formability.
The gauges shown above are based on American Galvanneal sheet steel manufacturers' gauge thickness. These will vary from British gauges with some exceptions.
Please note: Our suppliers have provided the material data above, with the nominal thicknesses based on industry standards.
