edge
Edging is a sheet metal forming process. Sheet metal usually comes with "burr" sharp edges after initial production. The purpose of edging is to smooth out the sharp and rough sheet metal edges to meet the needs of the project.
bending
Bending is another common sheet metal forming process. Manufacturers usually use a brake press or similar mechanical press to bend the metal. The sheet metal is placed on the die, and the punch is pressed down on the sheet metal. Great pressure causes the sheet metal to bend.
ironing
Sheet metal can also be ironed to achieve even thickness. Many soft drink cans, for example, are made from aluminum, which in its original state is too thick for the cans and therefore needs to be ironed to make them thinner and more even.
Laser cutting
Laser cutting has become a more and more popular sheet metal forming process. Sheet metal is exposed to high power and high-density laser, and the heat of the laser melts or vaporizes the sheet metal in contact with it, forming the cutting process. This is a faster, more accurate cutting method that is performed automatically using a computer numerical control (CNC) laser cutting machine.
stamping
Stamping is a common sheet metal forming process, which uses a punch and a die set to punch holes in sheet metal. The punching process is completed by placing the sheet metal between the punch and the die, which is then pressed down and through the metal plate.
