What materials are typically used for liquid cooling plates processed by Bergek CNC?

In the CNC machining of liquid cooling plates, 6061 and 6063 aluminum alloys and high-thermal-conductivity copper are two commonly used and well-established material choices for CNC-machined liquid cooling plates and custom cold plate manufacturing.

The selection of these materials is primarily based on a balance of their comprehensive properties. Aluminum alloys (such as 6061/6063) offer good strength, corrosion resistance, and relatively low weight, along with excellent machinability, allowing for the efficient production of complex flow channels and precise tolerances through CNC processes. High-thermal-conductivity copper, on the other hand, provides superior thermal conductivity and is often the preferred choice for applications requiring optimal heat dissipation performance.

Both materials demonstrate good process stability and controllability during CNC milling, which helps ensure the dimensional accuracy and consistency of the final parts. They are widely used to meet the requirements for thermal management performance and structural reliability in many applications, such as power electronics devices or laser systems. Compared with high-strength aluminum alloys such as 7075 or full copper block designs, 6061/6063 aluminum and copper inserts usually provide a more balanced solution in terms of machinability, thermal performance, cost control, and lead time for CNC-machined cold plates. Ultimately, the optimal material choice should be determined based on a comprehensive consideration of project-specific requirements, including fluid compatibility, system weight, cost constraints, and specific thermal loads.
